Building on the Deepening Bonds Between Japan and Vietnam Facing the Era of Transformation Together

Having been entrusted with a second term as Chairman of JCCH, I feel a renewed sense of responsibility and determination. Although my capabilities are modest, I will continue to devote my utmost efforts to the further development of JCCH as well as to strengthening Japan - Vietnam relations. I sincerely appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
Last year, we carried out a wide range of activities under the theme of "Deepening" the bonds between Japan and Vietnam. Building upon the trust accumulated through those efforts, I hope that this term will become a "Year of Action," in which we take concrete and decisive steps toward achieving transformation.
Vietnam is currently undergoing significant transformation. Major domestic corporations such as Vingroup and THACO have stepped forward to participate in large-scale infrastructure projects, including high-speed rail development, while IT giant FPT is constructing large-scale data centers. They are truly taking action on the fly, driving change with tremendous momentum.
Some voices question "Can they really do it?". However, this is the very path once taken by Japan, South Korea, and China. Vietnam is pressing forward to break free from the "middle-income trap" and evolve into a self-reliant economic powerhouse. In the face of such rapid change, I have a sense of crisis that if we merely stand by as observers, thinking that "it may still be too early," we risk finding ourselves left behind before we realize it.
The Vietnamese government has also introduced the "Doi Moi 2.0" policy, built upon four pillars: science - technology and innovation, international integration, private-sector development, and legislative - law enforcement. In light of this clear national direction, the question now facing us is how Japanese companies can align with thi clear national goal for transformation and grow together with Vietnam.

To achieve this, a transformation in mindset on the Japanese side may may be essential. Rather than relying solely on traditional management approaches rooted in the "Japanese style", I believe it is crucial to foster an attitude that asks our personnel "What would you think in this situation?", thereby drawing out their initiative and commitment.
While it is easy to speak of transformation, but actually bringing about change is never simple. Only when people truly regard change as their own responsibility and develop a genuine desire to "want to do it", they become wholeheartedly committed. I believe that the spirit of openness and encouragement, encapsulated in the Showa-era business leaders' phrase "Just give it a try," is precisely what is needed in this current period of transformation.
Looking at Japan, it is said that the working population could decrease by up to approximately 6 million people over the next decade. As business models relying solely on the Japanese domestic market face increasing difficulties amid population decline, I believe it will become increasingly important to build closer, innovative cooperative relationships with Vietnam, such as a "two-country, integrated management" approach that leverages Vietnamese human resources and the Vietnamese market.
In this turbulent year of 2026, what I believe is crucial is that we continue to move forward together, aligning ourselves with the aspirations of the Vietnamese people while jointly taking on the challenges of transformation. I firmly believe that doing so will further strengthen the bonds between Japan and Vietnam and open new possibilities for the future of both nations.
JCCH will continue to take the lead in "action" together with all our members and move forward without hesitation. I sincerely look forward to your active participation and continued support.
